"I am ready for my close up today
Too long I’ve let my self-respect stand in my way
Well the prom queen's caught in the high beams
And the strings keen it’s a big scene

But when the house goes up in flames
No one emerges triumphantly from it
When the scum begins to circle the drain
Everybody loves a winner" -The Mountain Goats

In which Christian Bridges, in his madness and his grief, undergoes a most great and terrible deed, all the while illuminating bright, white shining things.

On the foggy evening of May the 17th 2013, all the fair lords and ladies, beauty queens and bachelors, hipsters and renegades and even a vice principal, all arrived for the Hamiliton High Annual Prom. They came out of the mists,

Eeeeee I'm so excited for this big awesome project. Gonna be so much fun!

I think an interesting format would be if there are lots of images in with the text. Especially since whenever we work on stuff I get lots of mental images that I think would fit in well to include in the thing but don't necessarily make sense as being 'The' card image. And you have those different scenes in mind that would work super well as illustrations but again, don't fit as a card image. I don't mean like doing this as a graphic novel. Just, small images here and there that the text flows around, and/or maybe one or two half or full page ones through each story, since we were thinking the card images would be at the end of their story. So it would be smaller perhaps simpler illustrations that lead up to the final spiffy one. I guess somewhat of a storybook format? Like you see in some folklore/fairytale books, the kind that are meant for anyone who likes folklore/fairytales/mythology not the kind that's like "hey look childrens stories". Aka a decent amount of illustrations, but not every page, and no speech bubbles or anything on the illustrations though perhaps a sentence or two of the story is quoted underneath any large illustrations, of which story bit the image is of. I'm not sure if I'm making sense or if the way I'm writing this will give the right idea of what I mean. Will probably be easier for me to try and sketch out what kind of page format I mean next time I see you.

I suppose the main idea of what I'm trying to say is that I think it would be fun to do more illustrations than just the card image that would be also included in the actual stories and not be like extras you and I know of but don't put into the 'final' thing. but I have no idea how to fit them in and am throwing around random ideas for what might work. Full graphic novel format being way too intense and complicated given that this project is already gonna be pretty big, but only one or two images per story (including card image) just not being enough. So...something in between those. Perhaps when I reference folklore/fairytale/mythology books and the sort of style they tend to have with text and illustrations, I'm onto something that might work for the tarot story project thing?

I think having it like a storybord illustration is a good idea, maybe you can have some of (potential artwork) like something in Hans Christian Anderson or something would defenitly work.

How did you get such a small picture of ure cat?

I also would have put up more yesterday but I go cut off by dinner, hopefully I should be able to put up later today. :)

I think as well as looking at various tarot decks to see how each card is usually shown like what themes and stuff, we could also look through different storybook things like that to see different formats for the text/image stuff. But yeah Hans Christian Anderson or like storybooks I've seen of Edgar Allen Poe's stuff too, that sort of thing seems to fit, yes?

Photoshop! From the massive collection of photos that was saved from my dying hard drive because they were stored on my dad's user account not mine, like old family vacation photos, was also a folder full of photos of my cat that my mother had put there. I originally took all the cat photos though. XD My mother and the camera usually leads to blurry photos so she was like 'here you do it! take lots of ketzel photos!' So they were plenty of nice big high-resolution photos imported from the camera. I chose the one I wanted to use, copied it into photoshop, made the selection tool do only perfect square shape, decided I wanted the icon to be just the cat face since at such a small icon size it would get too blurry if I wanted to have the full cat, centered the square on Ketzel's face and moved the borders till it was the selection I wanted, did 'crop by selection' so then the file was a perfect square that was the exact image I wanted for the icon. Then told photoshop to resize it down to 100x100 pixels. Saved it as jpeg or png or something, whatever format it is that most sites and stuff are ok with for icons. I did all this a few months ago, I don't remember what I first made the icon for. But now I'm just using it for whatever sites and stuff for my icon like here and skype and stuff.
Haha this is probably a way longer more detailed explanation when the expected answer might have been just "With photoshop. I cropped it from a larger photo then shrunk/resized that to the required icon size."
Buuut since when have I been known for giving short simple explanations/answers to anything? XD

Yay more stuff!

no, thats a really good explanation, I only wish i had photoshop :(

I have bit more of the Ten of Swords flushed out and I'm in the motions of changing some stuff which I will post tomarrow hopefully but here are some of the foundations and stuff

Christian and Ariadne are siblings

Ariadne kills herself over really harsh bullying, which leads to Christain having a mental breakdown

Christian X tome of supernatural creepyness and makes his school's prom into a bloodbath....

I'm stil trying to figure out some more stuff, but this is about HALF, and like i said dark stuff

oh and what do you think?

My version of photoshop came with my graphics tablet, on a free bonus cd of various programs. So it's not quite as spiffy as main full version photoshop like the CS versions. There was also corel painter and nikon photo something on the cd, but I only really used photoshop, orginally tried the others but didn't bother reinstalling them post hard drive crash since I basically never used them. But...I still have the cd. And it doesn't have a restricted amount of times it can install to a computer like some cds have. Maybe it's got an amount of times it's technically 'supposed to'/allowed to be installed but it's not a hard coded limit, would only be on terms and conditions text thing. Aka doesn't matter. XD Especially since I never registered it. Like how most software has that "would you like to register this?" thing. Basically... if next time you're at my house you have your laptop with you, I can grant your wish of having photoshop.

I think it's looking good so far, and it's making me want to draw lots more stuff. :)

If we're meeting for lunch the first place linked wouldn't work too well- the site says weekdays it closes at 1pm, and from the site I'm not sure if they have food there or just coffee/tea. But it's actually not all that far, probably around the same distance from my house as the thai place. At least, walking. XD I don't think I'd be able to get a bus or something directly there.

We've been to that thai place before right? When you lent me The Magicians book?

The thai place sounds good, and/or we could meet outside bart (downtown berkeley bart?) and then decide where to go. That would probably make it easier to pick a time since bart schedules seem to be somewhat reliable.

I think my version of photoshop doesn't take up too much space, I mean, I had it on my previous hard drive which was only 68 gb, and though I'd had that hardrive pretty much totally filled, most of it was from music/image/video files, the programs didn't use much space. My photoshop thing came with the tablet, which I got I think less than a year after the laptop. So around 6-7 years ago. It was made when my itty bitty hard drive was standard size, perhaps even decent size. So unless your laptop is older than mine (mine is around 8 years old i think) or has not even a few gigabytes of space left...photoshop will fit just fine. And the files of stuff you make in photoshop also don't take up much space. Unless you do fancy stuff like making them so big they could print to be large-detailed-poster size, and/or you save it with lots and lots of layers. My old hardrive had a couple files of art stuff I started that after the first save I could never open the files again because they were so big (printed would have been something like 3 ft x 5 ft?) they made the computer run suuuuper slow and freeze up. And those were probably not even half a gigabyte, new hard drive I think would handle the same files just fine.

Perhaps I should bring a folder with blank paper, my clear clipboard, and pen+pencil+eraser with me. That way I'll be able to sketch out more stuff like I was the other day.

Then how does one sound on Thursday??. By the main downtown Berkeley bard exit?

I'll bring my comp, and we can decide from there?
Jul. 2nd, 2012 09:24 pm (UTC)
Thursday 1pm downtown berkeley bart, outside the big round thing that has the escalators? Sounds good.

Errr just wondering...you might want to set your lj to 'friends only' or something if you haven't already, if we're using the comment section kind of like private messages, with specific date/time/place info and all...
Jul. 2nd, 2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
ok, just changed it to friends on the privacy part of "settings" - probally a good idea

heres a list of the following "cards" that are in progress

Ten of Swords
The Charriot
The Magus
The ace of Swords
The ace of cups
The Knihgt of wands

Jul. 4th, 2012 01:30 am (UTC)
ok cool

I shall definitely bring clipboard+paper+pen+pencil, it seems there will be lots of stuff to sketch! :D
Jul. 3rd, 2012 04:15 am (UTC)
hey, I've been borring a friends powercord thingy, and cause they need it back by wensday, and I wont be able to get a new a sparkly one till at least somtime late thursday, so I dont know how long my comp will last on thursday which might limit what we can doo,

just a heads up
Jul. 4th, 2012 01:27 am (UTC)
Alright no problem. I don't think it'll limit stuff too much, and since the photoshop cd has one of those flimsy paper cases not a nice solid one it can't really leave my house without high risk of getting scratched or broken. So it's not like we'll be trying to do photoshop stuff and have your computer be like 'aaahhh no power! -blackscreen-"

So if we only turn on the computer when there's a specific thing we want to check/find/see/whatever, perhaps it will last long enough for whatever it gets used for?
